INT. ENGINEERING DECK
Medium shot of Rusty working on a piece of equipment on one of the workbenches.
He slips with the tool, rapping his knuckles, and drops the tool to the deck with a significant amount of noise.
Rusty leans down to pick up the fallen tool. As he stands, he staggers, clutching the edge of the bench for support. The tool drops from his hand and lands on the deck again.
From Rusty's POV: The room swims unsteadily. Sounds are uneven.
Rusty manages to focus on the sound of her voice and then she fades into focus. Choy looks very concerned.
Rusty nods slowly, not trusting himself to speak for a moment.
Choy kneels downs and picks up the fallen tool. She hands it to Rusty, who accepts it without looking at it.
Choy frowns at him. Rusty gives her a weak smile. He looks flushed and a bit shaky still.
Rusty turns to leave, seems to lose his orientation, and then heads for the main hatchway. Behind him, Choy continues to watch him with concern.
CUT TO:
INT. CORRIDOR
Rusty exits and someone unseen closes the hatch behind him. He waits until the hatch is closed and then staggers slightly, bracing himself with one hands against the bulkhead. He mumbles something we cannot hear and looks around.
After a moment, he pushes himself slowly away from the bulkhead and moves down the corridor. He walks slowly, as if having to measure each step.
CUT TO:
INT. RUSTY'S QUARTERS
The hatch opens and Rusty staggers inside. He closes the hatch with considerable effort. He pauses, leaning against the closed hatch. He is breathing heavily.
Perspiration is evident on his forehead and his cheeks are flushed. His eyes are bright, yet not entirely focused.
After a moment, he makes a beeline for the basin area. He half-charges, half-stumbles. When he reaches it, he holds onto the edge of the counter, steadying himself. He takes several deep, but ragged, breathes before opening the drawer beneath the basin.
He digs through it frantically for several moments before withdrawing a single ampoule. He studies it for a moment: it is empty. He tosses it away and slams the drawer closed. He steps back from the basin and looks around his quarters. His movements are not frantic, but definitely betray a lack of total control.
Rusty stops, staring at a shelf off to one side. He lumbers over, reaches down, and withdraws a bottle of dark brown liquid. He barely glances at the label before removing the stopper. He takes several deep swallows of the liquid, coughing slightly as it goes down.
After a moment, he relaxes slightly and walks over to the bed (unmade as usual). He takes another drink from the bottle and sits down on the edge of the bed, the bottle dangling from his hand.
Although he appears slightly more relaxed now, his expression clearly shows that he is not at ease.

CHOY
(concerned, cautiously)
It's the end of the shift, Chief. Maybe you should call it a day. (quick smile) You've been spending a lot of time here . . .
RUSTY
(dully)
Lots to do . . .
