INT. BAR – LATE AFTERNOON
Establishing shot of the bar. It is dimly lit, but bright enough to tell that it is midday outside.
The camera is on the door as Devereux steps inside and stops. She looks over the patrons, most of whom ignore her. A few of the men (and perhaps one or two of the women) do notice her appreciatively.
Medium shot as she looks at the interior and then she sees who she came looking for.
The camera follows her as she walks toward the bar. With the way the bar is lit, it is not clear who she is approaching until she is standing in front of him. Her body language clearly indicates that she is not happy. Before she can speak, she is interrupted.
Reaction shot of Devereux. She is angry, but does not want to make a public scene.
Rusty raises his glass in an unsteady toast before downing it.
DEVEREUX
(tightly)
Chief.
RUSTY
(ghost of a smile)
Captain.
Devereux pauses, aware that they are drawing glances from some of the other customers.
Rusty stares at her. He blinks several times as if having trouble focusing. He addresses Devereux with deliberate calm.
Reaction shot of Devereux. Her expression is a mix of anger, frustration, and surprise.
Devereux studies him for a moment, her anger fading.
Reaction shot of Devereux as she considers her answer.
Rusty looks at her as if surprised by her statement.
Closeup of Rusty as he considers this.
Reaction shot of Devereux, who responds as if struck.
It takes her a long moment to recover.
Rusty stares at her. His lips move as if he is trying to say something, but we hear nothing.
Rusty looks toward the bar, stares at it for a while, and then looks back at Devereux.

(gently)
There's nothing for you here either.

(grinning)
I knew you were going to say that! See? I do know! (seriously) This timeline is already all fragged up. What difference does it make if I stay or go?
