Mikolai stares down at the floor and then, a moment later, back out the window into the night.

1. Ext. Blacksmith workshop – day
Establishing shot of blacksmith shop.
The day is bright and warm.
There are the ambient noises of metal on metal. Shouts are audible, trying to heard over the sounds of the work.
There is an outdoor work area. A latticework roof covers it to provide some shade from the midday sun.
Medium shot of the interior of the shaded area.
We see Mikolai. He is shirtless, perspiring heavily as he bangs the heated metal into flattened strips.
Townspeople wander around in the dirt paths around the blacksmith area. Few pay any attention to the activity taking place inside.
